I’ve participated in Courage in Motion many times. When asked why so often, I reply that it comes down to supporting Israel and her wounded veterans – our heroes. It’s inspirational to ride for, and beside, those who have given so much to defend the State of Israel. Listening to how they have overcome incredible obstacles, as well as visiting the rehabilitation centres, and seeing Israel from a different perspective makes the ride a unique experience that should not be missed!

When I first joined Courage in Motion, I was not overly familiar with Beit Halochem.

Little did I realize the impact this experience would have on me. On the first day, I was nervous. I hoped I could do this; that I would be okay. On climbing the first hill, I was passed by a veteran on a recumbent bike. He had no legs, just arm strength and grit propelling him. I thought: this is why I’m here. This is the lesson of “courage”- what forges each of us to become who we have the capacity to be in the face of adversity and challenge.

More than the closeness and friendships made with fellow riders and veterans, this experience defines challenge, opportunity, ability, and “courage”.

Beyond how the ride seamlessly unfolds – from locations, perfectly constructed routes, amazing food prepared on the spot in stunning settings, drumming and dancing with the vets (the great humbling equalizer!), this ride paves a road of connection – to yourself and to a country and people like no other.

I do this ride annually. Don’t let thinking “I’m not in shape” or “It’s too challenging” or “I can’t find the time” stop you from having the experience of redefining Courage.

If Not me, Who? If I am Only for Myself, what am I? If Not Now, When?

I want to tell you that Courage in Motion was amazing – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I didn’t expect that people from Canada would do all those wonderful things for us and I definitely didn’t expect to find someone who would care to hear my story.

Amit Ginat, Beit Halochem Israel member

I enjoyed the ride very much.  The experience was really great to ride with the veterans.  That is what kept me going, if they can do it, then I can do it.  I highly recommend that more people from my community attend.

Participating for the first time on the 2019 Beit Halochem Courage In Motion was truly an experience of a lifetime. I heard many stories of perseverance from the veterans and had the opportunity to ride alongside our incredible heroes. The staff was extremely supportive and always friendly. After the daily rides, there were evening activities planned for the groups to come together, interact with each other and make new friends. No matter if you are a long time cyclist, or recently started your training, there is a level for everyone. I loved seeing different parts of Israel in such a unique way and would highly recommend going!! I cannot wait to participate again.

I would like to thank Beit Halochem Canada for putting on an amazing event and giving me the opportunity to be a part of it. Five days of riding through the mountains of northern Israel with my father is something I will always remember. Courage in Motion is such a great cause, which supports the wounded warriors of Israel. As a Christian, I feel honored to have been able to support these warriors, as they have sacrificed so much to protect these lands and make it possible for all faiths to visit the sites that are at the forefront of their religion. Toda Raba! See you next year!

It was a magnificent trip and the Beit Halochem Canada Courage in Motion bike ride for the Israeli veterans was an absolute experience of a life time! It wasn’t easy, don’t get me wrong! It was a huge challenge. But when I thought about the people who rode hand-bikes, or those missing a limb and were still riding every day….I couldn’t let them down. Who was I to complain about a little measly hill (or a big one!)

I had the opportunity to participate in CIM 2019 with my father and brother. It’s hard to put into words what an incredible experience it was. I encourage my family and friends on a regular basis to get involved with Beit Halochem and the CIM ride. It was a true honour to share the road with veterans who have sacrificed their lives to protect Israel and Jews around the world. Their passion for life is contagious and a lesson I will take with me for the rest of my life.
