Cyclists participate in Beit Halochem’s Courage in Motion, October 2022

A convoy of approximately 220 cyclists rode through Israel’s diverse landscape last week to raise over $1 million for a veteran’s charity.

Beit Halochem Canada’s 15th annual Courage in Motion (CIM) saw 100 cyclists from Canada, the UK, and the US ride alongside 120 disabled Israeli veterans and victims of terror to cover between 50 and 135 kilometres a day.

Taking place between October 23 – 27, the cyclists, who were joined by the Israel-Premier Tech national cycling team, rode through the Negev desert’s rugged formations, the hills of Jerusalem, the Mitzpe Ramon Crater, and alongside the Dead Sea.

The amount raised, currently totalling over $1.2 million, was achieved through the the riders’ registration fees, sponsorships and the generosity of Beit Halochem supporters, with fundraising remaining open until December 31.

As well as luxurious accommodations and beautiful settings, this year’s CIM attendees also enjoyed group activities following each day’s cycling, which included floating in the Dead Sea, an interactive military experience, and a night tour of Jerusalem.

Lisa Levy, Beit Halochem Canada’s Executive Director and CIM founder, said: “Courage in Motion not only raises much-needed funds for Beit Halochem, it also gives our disabled veterans the unique opportunity to enjoy the five-day magical journey. Exploring Israel’s different terrains, watching friendships form, and welcoming back cyclists year after year is what CIM is all about.”

Beit Halochem is an organisation committed to supporting disabled veterans in Israel, helping them rehabilitate, rebuild, and enhance their lives. Beit Halochem Centres across Israel provide specialised sports, recreational, and therapeutic programs where injured Heroes can regain dignity and quality of life.

It is estimated that there are over 50,000 disabled Israeli veterans living in Israel today.
